The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) is the world's leading center for research, teaching and policy ideas on information, technology, and digital media. They are tackling society's big questions about how new technologies transform our politics, economics, and culture.

Our research brings disciplines into partnership, and their teaching program draws from philosophy, social science, economics, law, and computer science.

Our policy impact is felt over many domains of public life. OII programs are creating the next generation of scholars, policy makers, designers and entrepreneurs who can conduct original research, test new ideas, lead in ethical decision making, and influence the evolving relationships between people and technology.

The Althea Foundation is supporting OII’s efforts to research social issues like “Fake News” and it’s far reaching consequences.

The past year has been dominated by stories of how fake news has influenced major political decisions on both sides of the Atlantic. Algorithms, AI, automation and social media have become powerful tools for social movements, but also effective tools for social manipulation.

We’re interested in exploring what impact this will this have on our society, our institutions and our future.
