CSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine
As medicine has become increasingly compartmentalized, medical treatment has lost touch with caring for each of us as a whole person. The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, offers a holistic approach to health, healing, and prevention by integrating modern medicine with established traditional medicine practices from around the world, such as acupuncture, meditation, and Ayurvedic Medicine.
A visit to the Osher Center focuses on a patient's overall wellness and health—physical, psychological, social, and spiritual—rather than solely on a specific disease. The Center also performs scientific research on the efficacy of integrative approaches to health, and educates students, health professionals and the public about Integrative Medicine.
From 2007 to 2009, the Althea Foundation funded a major Osher Center initiative to elevate public awareness of Integrative Medicine. The Althea Foundation also assists with raising funds to support the Osher Center's long-term sustainability and makes donations to the Center for its ongoing operations.
