There are many individuals living with developmental disabilities who are unable to communicate using spoken language. For these individuals, art is a powerful tool for self-expression and an important window through which they can communicate. This initiative seeks to celebrate the importance of art in the lives of people with developmental disabilities and to promote the talent and creative capacity in which these artists contribute to our understanding of people of all abilities. The Althea Foundation launched the Creativity Explored initiative in 2006 in an effort to support and raise awareness of the creative potential and visionary expression of individuals with developmental disabilities. The foundation now has over 50 paintings and drawings in its collection from Creativity Explored.
