Reach Out

Inspire Foundation was founded by Jack Heath in Australia in 1992 when he lost his cousin to suicide. Born out of this tragedy, his vision was to offer mental health and well being resources and support to young people through mediums that they use. Reachout.com was created out of Inspire Foundation’s vision and the then escalating rates of youth suicide in 1998. Reachout.com offers a safe online resource where troubled young people can seek important information and support.

A National Average of 6.3% (2 youths in a classroom of 30 students) commits suicide per year. The suicide rate in New York City is 9.9% (3 youths in a classroom of 30 students) which is 57% higher than the national average according to NYC Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) data.

Inspire Foundation USA (a California 501(c) (3) non-profit foundation) and Reachout.com USA was founded in 2007 with funding from the Macquarie Group Foundation and support from News Corporation and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation and with headquarters in San Francisco. The mission of providing a safe haven for troubled young people to seek information and support thus leading happier lives remains the same. Reachout.com has also entered into a joint venture with the Ad Council and the DDB advertising agency to support a national media campaign on suicide prevention that features Reachout.com.
