Compassionate Death Notification Program

Althea’s first public initiative in 2003 was the establishment of the Compassionate Death Notification & Stress Management Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. This was the first comprehensive online education, training and treatment program designed to provide a compassionate notification practice and address the needs of both survivors and death notifiers.

Althea provided seed capital and our advisory board acted as the catalysts for establishing the program with several world-renowned experts on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. This program provides:
• A toll free 24-hour audio training and support protocol phone number
• The provision of handmade linen “Compassion Boxes” for the returning of the deceased’s belongings
• Translation of basic procedures into Arabic, Hebrew, French, Spanish, German, and Farsi

Today, the program has been adopted by a variety of organizations throughout the world, including the United States Army, the Ministry of Defence and Metropolitan Police Department in the U.K., and Scotland Yard.
